Central Manitoulin Council Notes

Property Committee

Property committee members Alex Baran and Dale Scott recommended to council that a public meeting be held to discuss the terms of reference to create a committee that will consider the history and potential of Wagg’s Park. Councillor Baran questioned the use of the word park and Mayor Stephens explained that he had done some research on the name and different words were used to describe the area including Waggs Wood. The motion was passed.

Councillors Baran and Scott recommended to council that the Providence Bay community centre board minutes be accepted and the motion passed.

Finance and Economic Development Committee

Council approved the year to date financial report ending August 31, 2016 for this committee.

Council approved the cheque register ending August 31, 2016 in the amount of $683,578.40

Councillors Linda Farquhar and Mayor Richard Stephens recommended that council accepts the August 30, 2016 minutes of the Manitoulin Planning Board as presented and the motion carried.

Councillors Pat MacDonald and Mayor Stephens recommended that the municipality apply for the clean water and wastewater fund for the projects suggested by the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA). Councillor Baran noted that doing so would have the potential of absorbing some of the expenditures around clean water and wastewater. Councillor MacDonald agreed, saying that there would be a large output of funds if council does not apply for the funds. Council accepted the motion.

Office and Administration Committee

Councillor Scott and Mayor Stephens recommended to council that the municipality compensate Proulx Law Office $2,500 for a percentage of the leasehold improvements and time and expenses incurred in moving the Law office due to the municipality closing the Old School building. Ms. Proulx had agreed and the motion was accepted.

Council accepted a motion by councillors Derek Stephens and Mayor Richard Stephens that the committee schedule be changed effective October 1, 2016 as follows: safety/security/health committee: third Tuesday of each month at 7 pm and the office and administration committee to the fourth Tuesday of each month at 1:30 pm.

The donations financial was accepted by council as presented as well as the year to date financial report ending August 31, 2016 for the office and administration committee.

Council approved the motion by councillor Stephens and Mayor Richard Stephens that the clerk be directed to have the municipal lawyer respond to Patricia Meehan’s August 23, 2016 letter as discussed in camera.
