Snow, snow and more snow and so c-c-c-cold and it isn’t even winter yet! The highways are snow-packed and slick so take extra time to get to your destination.

Many Islanders have been visiting Espanola and Sudbury this past week. Royce and Tracy Young, Renée Harper, Sally Cranston and Marg and Sherri Cranston did some shopping in Sudbury. Margaret Elliot, Jean Pearson, Eva Bond, Willie White and Tim brook ventured to Espanola.

We’re thinking of Douglas Lewis, Rick Belton, Don Burke and Blair Sullivan. Take good care.

There have been many Christmas concerts throughout our area this week. The Manitoulin Secondary School Island-wide holiday concert was held on December 10. It was a great success on such a stormy night featuring students from Pontiac, Central Manitoulin Public and Lakeview Schools. Manitoulin Secondary School Vocal Group, Concert Band and Drum Group. Those who attended enjoyed the music. There is so much young talent on this Island.

The community Christmas pageant, led by Dawn Dawson from the Community of Christ Church in Providence Bay, was held Saturday the 14th. There was almost a full house in the Providence Bay Community Hall to enjoy the festivities put on by the young people. A spoof of Duck Dynasty gave everyone a good chuckle. The Providence Bay and Spring Bay Lions Club held its annual bake sale in conjunction with the pageant. Everyone had such a great time enjoying the plays, music and bake sale. Santa Claus found his way to the hall to be greeted by the smiling children. This writer believes it was the best pageant and bake sale yet!

The Victim Services Christmas Party was held at the Little Current rec centre on Friday evening. Attending from Central Manitoulin were Sharon Stephens, John and Arlene Finley and Margaret Cranston. A big thank you goes to Ashley and Kristin for such a lovely evening.

Our condolences are extended to the family of Richard and Sharon Stephens in the passing of Sharon’s brother Kevin of Bracebridge.

Well, one more week before Christmas. Shop locally and support your Island businesses. If you have visitors to the Island please remember there are bed and breakfasts and motels open year round.

We wish everyone a very safe and Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a healthy and prosperous 2014.
