LITTLE CURRENT—Manitoulin Centennial Manor received an Employer Stellar Award from Workforce Planning for Sudbury and Manitoulin. The long-term care residence was nominated for the award by Kenjgewin Teg, the M’Chigeeng-based educational institute, a number of whose graduates have gone on to work for the Manor following work placements.
“It is quite nice,” said Manor administrator Don Cook, who noted that much of the credit for the award goes to Sylvie Clarke, director of care at the Manor, for her hard work and dedication in ensuring Kenjgewin Teg students were well matched and supported during their placements at the Manor.
“The focus for the award was to showcase and acknowledge trailblazing businesses and organizations who value sharing their expertise, knowledge and time to train future members of the workforce,” noted Kenjgewin Teg in announcing the award. “We would like to congratulate you, as well as express our gratitude with assisting in student success with Kenjgewin Teg and your commitment to our students, and more often hiring those who you’ve trained.”
The citation notes that, “for the past six years MCM has gone over and above to organize and support placements for Kenjgewin Teg Personal Support Workers. Their commitment to students was evident when unforeseen accommodations were required. Their commitment to ensuring each student was paired with an exemplary PSW staff member was clear in the student’s success during clinical and consolidation placements. Students met, or exceeded, all course requirements.”
The citation goes on to note that many of the students completing their placement at the Manor went on to accept positions there. “This speaks volumes about their dedication and commitment to providing a positive experience for our students.”
The citation goes on to anticipate the Kenjgewin Teg collaboration with the Manor continuing to flourish as practical nursing students from the educational institute begin placements there.
