MINDEMOYA—Central Manitoulin council have directed its staff to send a letter to a non-compliant property owner in the Carter Bay area, informing them that the municipality is seeking legal advice, and that the property owner has to remove the non-conforming structures from their property by the end of July.
“I believe our building inspector said there were 12 persons-properties involved in not removing the structures from their property and that this one person was the only one he didn’t hear from,” said Richard Stephens, mayor of Central Manitoulin at a council meeting last week.
Council passed a motion that council request staff “to send a letter to the non-compliant property owner in the Carter Bay area, informing them that the municipality is seeking legal counsel, and that they must remove the non-conforming structures from the property by July 31, 2018.”
Mayor Stephens told the Recorder after the meeting, “a total of 12 letters had been sent out to property owners in Carter Bay who had structures in place like trailers and building facilities on their lots. This is contrary to ministry regulations, and they were asked to remove the structures. Eleven of the property owners complied or made arrangements to remove the structures, but the 12th property owner did not contact the municipality or comply.”
“And our building inspector has reported that the one property owner not in compliance has done additional work on their lot,” said Mayor Stephens.
