Candlelight Concert at Holy Cross Church another successful event

WIIKWEMKOONG—The recent Candlelight Concert at Holy Cross Church in Wiikwemkoong required a slightly different approach from the past events as the sun remains high in the sky much longer than in the winter and the church is blessed with plenty of windows to let the light shine in. Thanks to the efforts of a trio of volunteers, the evening sun proved no obstacle to the atmosphere.

“We would like to thank Lance Dokum, Mgizi Mishibinijima and Terrence Jacko for covering the windows so we can have darkness and to Chantal Filion, Christian and Elijah Manitowabi for tearing down everything afterwards,” said organizer Audrey Ozawabineshi. “They were so much help and to our parish council who stayed behind to help put away our candles, Marjorie, Tish, Rosemary and Rosella.”

Father Paul Robson, centre, presents Dawn-Marie Jacko with gift certificates for taking on the candlelight concert series with the help of Audrey Ozawabineshi, right, and Ms. Jacko’s partner Rick Leedham and daughter Trinity. This is the third candlelight concert series to date in support of Holy Cross Church.

“Chi-miigwech to our volunteer bake sale helper Sirena Trudeau and to our mother and daughter team of Dawn-Marie and Trinity Jacko for decorating, it was so beautiful,” continued  Ms. Ozawabinbeshi. “And to all the people who donated to craft, services or to the canteen. Chi-miigwech to Regina Webkamigad and Bernadine Francis for the 50/50 sales; to Ashley Manitowabi of Galloping Horse and his volunteers Sunny Bear, Adrian Kat and Joel Wabanosse; to all the people who came out for the evening and especially our wonderfully talented musicians who volunteered their time: Aiden Leedham, Fr.
