Candidate list for 2017 M’Chigeeng election set

M’CHIGEENG—The finalized list of candidates willing to let their names stand for the Saturday, September 9 M’Chigeeng band council elections has been finalized following the Friday, August 2 deadline to withdraw nominations.

Of the 12 candidates nominated for chief, two candidates have allowed their names to stand for election as chief, incumbent Linda Debassige and Adam Debassige.

Of the originally nominated 55 candidates nominated for band councillor, 19 candidates have allowed their names to stand. Standing for band council are: Kim Aelick, Albert Beaudin, Jesse Beaudin, Jeff Bebonang, Andrew M. Corbiere, Dennis Corbiere, Ray Corbiere, Grace Debassige, Howard Debassige, Kimberly Debassige, Leslie Debassige, Lewis Debassige, Sam Debassige, Forry Hare, Thomas Hare, Melissa Kasunich, Daughness Migwans, Henry Panamick Sr. and Hazel Recollet.

Chief electoral officer is Dan Simon who noted that mail out ballots will be sent to all off-reserve members who have contact the electoral office. Two advance polls will be held on Sunday, September 3 and Monday September 4 at the M’Chigeeng complex from 2 to 5 pm. The final poll will be held Saturday, September 9 from 10 am to 5 pm. The ballot count will take place immediately after the close of the final poll.
