A plea to the organizers to reconsider their emotional decision and take time to reflect
To the Expositor:
It was with great sadness I read the notice in the Expositor: Ense-Hare Memorial Hockey Tournament Retires.
I had the opportunity of playing hockey against both of these great players and I considered both Floyd and Grant my friends.
I attended their funerals wearing my Providence Bay hockey sweater and coat out of respect for these two great men.
In 1983 Providence Bay started the Tom Pearson Memorial Hockey Tournament and through the years there were bumps along the way. One year another tournament was also in conflict with Tom’s tournament, but through our chairman we got things resolved with the other hockey tournament’s organizers. The Pearson Brothers Hockey Tournament is still going strong today.
I’m asking the organizers of the Ense-Hare Memorial Hockey Tournament to reconsider their very emotional decision and please take time to reflect.
For 27 years you have done such a great job honouring these two great men so please don’t stop now. To the conflicting hockey tournament organizers, please show your respect and change the date of your tournament. Hopefully everyone can see the light and the Ense-Hare Hockey Tournament will go on.
Yours truly,
Jamie McDermid
