Wrong messages on alcohol being sent by Santa Claus parade ‘elves’
To the Expositor:
Within the beautiful Christmas photos of the Little Current Santa Claus parade in the December 16, 2015 Expositor, I can’t believe what I saw in the photo of the Manitoulin Brewing Co.: using little children to advertise their alcohol.
I’ve spent a lot of my life trying to warn children about the cost of consuming alcohol; both on our society and on their lives as they grow into adulthood. The devastation alcohol has had on my family and friends has been heart-rending, along with causing a lot of grief.
But with this photo it says to me. 1) Drink up, children, the first time you get a chance. 2) We make a living from your bad habits. 3) Alcohol will give you confidence to drive at all times, but try not to kill an innocent person. 4) Alcohol can make you stupid enough to beat up your spouse for no reason. 5) And as you get older, you can experience diabetes, liver disease and even get to lose a few brain cells.
In case these brewers missed the class on moral ethics, why not start an industry that helps society, not destroys it?
