C.C. McLean school Legion Remembrance Day contest winners announced

GORE BAY—Charles C. McLean Public School students took part in the annual Royal Canadian Legion Branch 514 (Gore Bay) Remembrance Day poster and literacy contest. 

Prior to Christmas, Jim Woods past president of RCL #514 visited the school to announce the winners in the in-school competition. 

In the coloured poster category, primary student division, Rosie Wiwchar finished in first place, followed by Clara McFadden and Rhea Menzies in second and third place respectively. In the black and white poster category, Rosie Wiwchar again finished first, followed by Ameliya (Milly) Lane in second and Aubree Robinson third.

The junior division coloured poster winners included Ally-Anna Lefebvre in first, Arlo Menzies second and Lily Wiwchar third. The black and white poster winners included Levi Geerdink in first, Emily Deremo second and Dawson Honess third. In the junior division poetry competition, Emily Ollington took top spot with Levi Geerdink in second. Theo Desjardins took top spot in the junior essay competition, with Kane Noble second and Blair Noble third. 

The intermediate grade coloured poster competition saw Emma Chaytor first, with Sarah Joyce and David Joyce in second and third, respectively. The Intermediate black and white poster category saw Kendall Gibson in first place, Leah Campbell second and Alex (Jenny) Wright third. And in the intermediate poetry category, Riley Hubbard took top spot followed by Sadie Hardy in second and Lily Cobbs third.

All students who finished from first to third have now qualified for the Royal Canadian Legion zone competition.
