I hope everyone enjoyed the March Break! Now that all the fun is done, everyone is working hard again! Both students and teachers deserved the break.
The girls’ and boys’ teams played in the Island Basketball Tournament for the Elementary schools on Tuesday, March 7. The girls’ team won two games to put them in 3rd place. The boys’ team also won two games! “Thank you” to Mr. Hachey and Mr. Smith for coaching! Great job Colts!
On Friday, March 10 there was a Winter Fun Day to kick off the March Break! Winter Fun Day is when all the students in the school break off into teams and battle each other in different games and competitions. At the end of the day one team is crowned the winner! I hope everyone had a wonderful time!
Before the March Break, I introduced you to Flat Stanley, a paper travelling companion for military personnel that are penpals with Mrs. Jefkins’ 4/5 students. As mentioned the Stanley’s are travelling worldwide with their penpals. One Stanley met His Excellency, the Right Honourable David Johnston, Canada’s Governor General. He had his photo taken with the Governor General. Another Stanley got to visit the Taj Mahal located in Agra, India. Wasn’t he lucky or was he? Flat Stanley was having his picture taken in front of the Taj Mahal when the Police guarding the site expressed that they weren’t happy about the pictures being taken, and felt this was disrespectful. They took custody of Flat Stanley while the penpal explored the Taj Mahal, and only returned him to the penpal when they agreed to exit the site. The penpal told Mrs. Jefkins and the class that she was afraid they wouldn’t give him back! So far this year the 4/5 class has received numerous letters and some packages from their penpals!
The first day of spring has come and gone. On March 20, we finally got to say “Goodbye” to winter. There was also a lunar event on the same day, which can be summed up in this joke. How do you know the moon is going broke? It is down to its last quarter!
Upcoming events include spring picture day on March 28.
Until next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
