I apologize to everyone that was looking forward to an article last week. Keep reading, and I hope to catch you up on all that is going on at C.C. McLean.

Only two weeks of school left!  It feels like it was just Christmas! (I might be exaggerating just a little.) Now the trees are blooming, the birds are singing, and the bees are buzzing. Speaking of bees…

Joke of the Week: Can bees fly in the rain? Not without their yellow jackets.

It has been a busy last few weeks at C.C. Mclean. Class trips, track and field, and now at the end of it…we get a P.D. Day!! Today, June 16, is a Professional Development Day! Yay!

The school’s Junior/Intermediate Track and Field Meet was held on Wednesday, June 7. Students in Grades 4 to 8 got to participate in both field and track events. There was a total of 10 events that the students could have participated in. The top three students (the students who earned the most points) in each division, either got the gold, silver or bronze medal. The divisions were separated by age and gender.

The medal winners in the nine-year-old girls’ division were, in a tie for bronze, Hailey Hawke and Daphne Carr; silver, Tessa Merrylees; and gold, Alexandra Wilson-Zegil. Nine-year-old boys, bronze, Ryder Lockyer; silver, Corbin Best; and gold, Cody Campbell. Ten-year-old girls, bronze, Hailey Ferguson; silver, Taylor Bell; and gold, Abby Hawke. Ten-year-old boys, bronze, Kowan Orford; silver, Eli Lock; and a tie for gold, Malachi Joseph and Jaydan Hayden. Eleven-year-old girls, bronze, Caleigh Quinlan; silver, Jenna Shank; and gold, Jazmin Colwell. Eleven-year-old boys, bronze, Lucas Wright; silver, Mason Leighton; and gold, Bay Migwans. Twelve-year-old girls, bronze, Trish Patterson; silver, Téah Migwans; and gold, Sophie Hietkamp. Twelve-year-old boys, bronze, Damien Merrylees; silver, Anthony Dearing; and gold, Trent Bell. Thirteen-year-old girls, bronze, Bailey Yaschuk-Middaugh; silver, Malia Leighton; and gold, Ayriell Noecker. Thirteen-year-old boys, in a tie for bronze, Kyle Greenman and Nathan Temple; silver, Austin Hayden; and gold, Rory Dearing.

Congratulations to all of the athletes and thank you to all of the teachers, volunteers and parents that helped in the success of the day!

Island Track and Field, which included students from all the island schools, has come and gone. On June 13 and June 15, selected students in Grades 4 to 8 participated in up to five events out of 10 events held. The results will be included in next week’s column.

Mrs. Best’s ELK class and Mrs. Patterson’s Grade 3/4 class went to the Cultural Foundation in M’ Chigeeng for their class trip on Friday, June 9. The students had a great time and learned a lot.

Happy Father’s Day to all of the Fathers, Uncles, and Grandfathers. Hope you have a great day on Sunday! Just a thought about Sunday: Please don’t put strawberry jam on your toast that day! This is why…

Why did the baby strawberry cry? Because his dad was in a jam!

Upcoming events include, Primary Track and Field, Sunglasses and Hat Spirit Day, and the Grade 8 Graduation.

Until next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
