EVANSVILLE—It was a great night of food and entertainment as the Charles C. McLean (Gore Bay) Grade 7/8 class Valentine’s dinner-dance fundraiser was held at the Burpee-Mills complex this past Saturday evening.

“We would like to thank all of you for coming out here this evening,” stated Melody Hore, the main organizer for the evening, addressing the 113 people in attendance.

Many of the Grade 7/8 C.C. McLean students were on hand to serve the food and clean up afterwards.

The menu included roast beef and baked ham with mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, carrots, corn, coleslaw and homemade dinner rolls.

The Grade 8 students served the meal, while the parents served the hot beverages. For dessert there were pies, squares and fresh fruit.

“We were very pleased at the way the Grade 8 students handled themselves—they did a great job of serving the food, setting up and cleaning up afterwards,” said Ms. Hore.

“Melody Hore was the organizer of the event, and we are so grateful she was,” said Bruce Lindsay, Grade 8 teacher at C.C. McLean.

After the dinner, the band Family Tradition donated their time and effort to play music for the dance which was enjoyed by all. Art Hayden and Christie Best-Pearson Anderson also played a dance just for the students and Mr. Lindsay to get on the floor and strut their stuff.

There was a silent auction table all night, with John Featherstone and family having donated two tickets to Bluegrass in the Country as well as two t-shirts and hats to the event. As well other items were donated by parents and friends including hand quilted table runners, a teddy bear and wall hangings. Jan Bainbridge won the door prize.

The money raised from this event is going towards the cost of the Grade 7/8’s year-end class trip in June.

Mr. Lindsay explained, “we have not finalized details of the class trip, but the Grade 8s will probably be going to the Collingwood area in June. The Grade 7s in our class will attend a day-trip with the other Grade 7s in the school.”
