Boys’ title won by Pontiac School
MANITOULIN—The Charles C. McLean girls’ volleyball team capped off their very successful season by capturing the Island elementary school championship in Little Current. On the boys’ side, Pontiac won the title on their home court.
C.C. McLean won the championship by, “defeating the competitive teams from Assiginack, Lakeview, Central Manitoulin, Little Current, and Pontiac schools,” said coach Dan Smith. “The girls brought home the championship trophy, which hasn’t been in Gore Bay for 10 years.”
“C.C. McLean was represented very well with great skills, top notch attitudes, spirit, and sportsmanship,” said Mr. Smith.
C.C. McLean finished with a perfect five wins, zero losses in the tournament, garnering a total of 125 points for and only 46 against. In their first game they defeated Lakeview 25-11, Assiginack by a score of 25-17, defeated CMPS by a score of 25-10, 25-6 over Little Current Public School, and 25-9 over Pontiac.
The C.C. McLean team roster included Malia Leighton, Ayriell Nodecker, Macy Pearson, Amber Wiwchar, Reece Carter, Larissa Chevrette, Zoe Couillard, Lily-Faith Hore, Dream McLaughlin, Nicole Shank, Abby Smith, Madison Swihart and Paige VanderWeerden.
The Pontiac boys’ championship roster included Kaleb Dokum, Evanson Peltier-Pitawanakwat, Ian Dokum, Kevin Trudeau, Malachi Shawanda, Dante Recollet, Hunter Staruck, Zachary Pangowish and Eli Jackson.
