Budget-minded couple helping families save money

GORE BAY—Raising a family definitely takes careful budgeting these days. Even shopping at the less expensive stores to get little ones ready for winter; boots, snow pants, jackets plus accessories, can easily ring in at $300. With 10 children between them, a Gore Bay couple has experienced what it means to ‘tighten the purse strings.’

“We were digging through thrift store bins in the 80s to find kids clothes-before it became cool,” said Kris LeBlanc, co-owner of Little Shop on the Corner.

“We’ve seen the resale market grow and improve over the last 20 plus years and I think the younger couples know that with today’s economy, it just makes sense to shop this way,” added Harold Temple, co-owner. “Chatting with the moms and grandmas that come into the shop is a real thrill. They really appreciate what we’re doing and they’ve said our community needs this so we’re excited that we can help families save money.”

Little Shop on the Corner (children’s consignment) has higher-quality new and nearly-new, affordably-priced clothing and accessories for kids, newborn to pre-teen. Parents can drop off the clothes they no longer need and those items will be sorted, tagged and displayed. Once those items sell, consigners can choose to take the percentage of the sales in cash or spend it in the Little Shop.

Located at the corner of Dawson Street and Water Street, a block from the medical centre, the Little Shop on the Corner not only offers kids consignment, they also provide professional sewing and alteration services, which means anything from hemming a pair of jeans, custom-fitted slip covers, or handmade tote bags, wallets, home décor, sewing classes in 2016, and the list goes on.

Next spring the Little Shop will be expanding their product line to include an entertainment section with items such as video games, movies, gaming systems, collectibles, and more (and all in excellent used condition or ‘EUC’).

Current hours are Tuesdays to Fridays 10 am to 5 pm and Saturdays 10 to 4. For anyone interested in consignment sales, please call Kris at 705-348-8215.
