SUDBURY—M’Chigeeng’s Brooke Debassige was crowned Miss Manitoulin 2013 last Haweater Weekend and will be moving on to represent the Island this weekend at the Miss North Ontario pageant in Sudbury.
Competing against 45 other girls, Brooke will be judged on her volunteer and community work, a personal interview with judges, public speaking, as well as eveningwear, talent and fitness segments.
The Miss North Ontario pageant starts this Friday, May 2 at 8 pm with the preliminary talent show at the Fraser Auditorium at Laurentian University. The final gala competition and crowning show will take place on Saturday, May 3 at 8 pm. Tickets are $25 for both nights or $10 for Friday night and $20 for Saturday night and available at Bottega Mia, Fashion City, J.B. Jewellers, Lindgrens Bridal or at the door on show nights.
You can vote for Brooke all this week online for the People’s Choice Award. Voting is unlimited and can be accessed through www.missnorthontario.com.
Last Haweater Weekend saw seven contestants from across the Island compete for the Miss Manitoulin crown at the pageant’s Haweater comeback after a nine-year hiatus.
This will be Brooke’s second time competing in the Miss North Ontario pageant, having been scouted and participated in 2012 when she was named runner up for the People’s Choice award.
Brooke grew up in M’Chigeeng, eventually moving to Hanmer with her family, but still calling Manitoulin home.
She has just completed her first year at Carleton University studying Criminology and Criminal Justice.
The Miss Manitoulin 2014 committee will begin recruiting for this year’s pageant next month. For more information contact Robin or Alicia at 705-368-2744.
