SILVER WATER—Thanks to the generosity of a fire department in southern Ontario, the Robinson Township Volunteer Fire Department has received much needed firefighting equipment.
Recently, Captain Gerard Binsfield of the Robinson Fire Department travelled to Beaverton to receive 10 complete sets of fire turnout gear which Brock Township Fire and Rescue has donated to the local fire department. He pointed out it costs $2,000 to outfit each firefighter with the necessary firefighting gear.
“It is a wonderful donation to a fire department with limited resources like ours,” said Mr. Binsfield. “We can thank our deputy fire chief Tim MacKinlay and fire chief Doug Wismer for furthering our relationship with other fire departments.”
He explained in previous years Mr. MacKinlay has helped arrange for Robinson to purchase a couple of tanker trucks, and that Brock has donated firefighting gear in the past.
“This is a great donation of firefighter turnout gear we have received,” said Mr. Wismer. “It is equipment we can use during practice or could pull on to fight a fire as well. It’s great the support we have received from Brock.”
Mr. Binsfield was with the King City Area Fire and Emergency Service Department for 38 years, having moved to Manitoulin Island about 15 years ago and joining the Robinson Fire Department.
“The generosity of Brock Fire Department is certainly appreciated by our community,” said Mr. Binsfield. “The fraternity between firefighters is a truly remarkable thing to see. It goes without saying that such great friends are always welcome here.”
