MINDEMOYA—The Bank of Montreal (BMO) announced a donation of $200,000 to the Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) ‘Let’s Emerg Together’ fundraising campaign which supports the renovation and expansion of the Mindemoya hospital emergency department. With the significant donation, the new waiting room in the emergency department of the hospital will now be known as the BMO Emergency Waiting Room.
“BMO is proud to serve the Manitoulin Island community with teams in Little Current, Mindemoya, Gore Bay and Manitowaning, and we are thrilled to play a role in the development and expansion of the Mindemoya emergency department at MHC,” said Jennifer Carbone, RVP, BMO Personal Banking. “This donation will support the progress being made in local healthcare delivery, with a direct impact on the health and wellbeing of people in our community, exemplifying BMO’s purpose, to boldly grow the good in business and life.”
“At BMO, we’ve always had a strong and longstanding commitment to drive progress while supporting the communities where we live and work, and the field of healthcare holds deep importance to us,” said Ms. Carbone. She explained BMO first opened for business 205 years ago, “and it wasn’t long after we opened our doors that we made our first donation; to a hospital. Since then, we’ve continued to contribute to the quality of life of our communities, and we are pleased to continue that tradition today.”
“The MHC provides critical and essential patient care to the residents of the Manitoulin Island and North Shore region,” said Ms. Carbone. “The work done here improves the lives, health, and wellbeing for all people.”
“This morning, I’m delighted to announce a donation of $200,000. These funds will support the Mindemoya emergency room upgrade as part of the Let’s Emerg Together campaign,” continued Ms. Carbone. “It’s our hope this contribution will help move forward the exceptional work that’s being done through the Manitoulin Health Centre, to ensure equal access to care in critical and emergent times.”
Paula Fields, president and chief executive officer of the MHC told the gathering, “I want to thank the Bank of Montreal for their generous donation to the renovation and expansion of the Mindemoya site emergency department, specifically the BMO waiting room. We are grateful for BMO’s commitment to the communities that they serve and their desire to enable positive change and growth for communities.”
Ms. Fields explained the renovation/expansion project, “enables clinicians to provide safe care to mental health patients with enhanced safety for our employees, the ability to safely treat infectious diseases while protecting other patients and employees. The space is supportive to patient flow best practices and patient privacy and allows for increased space to provide care and for patients and family members to gather.”
“Thank you for supporting our mission of ‘contributing to the health and wellbeing of all that come to us in need,’ as well as our values of respect, passion, truth,” said Ms. Fields. “Thank you and miigwetch for your generous donation and corporate stewardship. MHC is proud of and looks forward to future partnerships and I am happy to announce that the BMO waiting area is officially open.”
Dennis McGregor, MHC board chair, stated, “on behalf of all members of the MHC board thank you to the Bank of Montreal for this very generous donation to our ‘Let’s Emerg Together Campaign.’ MHC is proud to have BMO as our banking partners and are grateful for the outstanding corporate citizenship they continue to demonstrate to all the people of Manitoulin Island.”
