Each year Bluegrass in the Country raises funds for Manitoulin Special Olympic programming. Traditionally Wound gets the audience dancing in their seats. photo by Tom Sasvar Joanne Mellan was one of several volunteers that was recognized for her years of volunteer service with the Manitoulin Special Olympics. Ms. Mellan was presented with her pin by athlete Matthew Bedard and coach Janet Anning. Bluegrass audiences were able to see the award winning group Winterline perform both Friday and Saturday night. Fred Hunter leads the Manitoulin Special Olympic athletes in square dancing. The group had been practicing for the occasion with Mr. Hunter leading up to the event. Manitowaning’s Robbie Shawana was another crowd favourite, playing classic country songs and performing during the square dancing.
