Billings Councillor Imrie announces resignation

KAGAWONG—Billings Township Councillor Tom Imrie officially announced his resignation at a council meeting this past Monday.

“I am resigning officially as of November 14, for personal reasons,” Councillor Imrie told the Recorder prior to Monday’s meeting. “Circumstances in my life have changed and I cannot dedicate the time, work and dedication that I did in the past.”

“I felt that in the best interest of the community I should resign from council at this time and allow someone who can provide more time to do the job and serve on council,” said Councillor Imrie.

Councillor Imrie has served on Billings council for close to three terms. He explained he first served on council when Councillor Sharon Alkenbrack had resigned due to health issues and Billings council had asked local residents if they would volunteer to serve on council. Councillor Imrie applied, was appointed by council and served three years in that term of council.

Since then Councillor Imrie has been re-elected to council twice, so has served on council a total of nine years.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of being on council and serving the community,” stated Councillor Imrie. “I’ve had a wonderful time and it has been great. And the people I’ve served with on council have all been dedicated, committed and professional people looking after the best interests of the community.”

Councillor Imrie and his wife Kathy are in the process of selling their home in Gore Bay, but will retain ownership of their place in Kagawong, he added.
