GORE BAY—Leah Rayner of Gore Bay won the Jim Rayner Memorial Family Bass Trophy for having caught the largest bass caught in the annual competition.
This year marked the fifth anniversary of the competition. It is held for the family and friends of Jim Rayner, a community minded Gore Bay resident who was a great fisherman. Jim passed away in December 2013.
Jim Rayner’s family and closest friends, who have camps on Lake Kagawong close to the Rayner family camp, made the event trophy using natural Manitoulin materials and Jim’s own “bass” belt buck. The trophy and the annual bass competition, for the largest bass of the season, is in loving member of Jim Rayner.
This year was extra special, as for the first time, Jim’s widow Leah Rayner, won the competition.
On Sunday, October 8, Fred Noland presented a happy Leah Rayner of Gore Bay with the Jim Rayner Memorial Family Bass Trophy. Leah’s biggest bass of the season weighed in at four pounds, four ounces.
