The November meeting was well attended. Reports of events and ongoing fundraisers were presented and plans were made for the next events.
The donation of $16,500 for equipment purchases was received by the Manitoulin Health Centre. Remember that when you donate to the MHC Auxiliary, your money stays in Little Current to enhance patient services at the Little Current site. From past donations to the Sweet Slumbers campaign, some of the new beds are already in use.
The Harvest\Bake Sale was the most successful ever! More money was raised and all items were sold out! The May to October Book Sale at the NEMI Farmers’ Market was also a hit. More than $1,200 was raised. Thank you for your support and donations for both events.
We are still overwhelmed with books so no donations are being accepted at this time. You will notice books at admitting, the lab and at emergency with a sticker that says “Please, take me home.” This service is provided by the Auxiliary.
Our only representative at the November Conference in Toronto was Dianne Musgrove, the North Central Regional Chair. She was given the right to a proxy vote on our behalf.
Here are the upcoming events.
The Annual Cookie Walk is at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Little Current on November 28 from 9 am till noon. Do your Christmas baking the easy way and support the MHC Auxiliary at the same time! The donation of cookies is always appreciated. Call Debbie at 705-368-3044 and bake up a few batches to donate.
The Memory Tree will be set up in early December. You buy an ornament and fill out a card in memory of someone or as an MHC Auxiliary Supporter. The card is hung on the Memory Tree and you take the ornament home and enjoy its beauty.
One student who will be studying in the medical field will receive $1,000 at the Awards Ceremony at MSS in December. Perhaps a future doctor? MHC Auxiliary member Doug Hore will make the presentation.
The Auxiliary Christmas Dinner is on Thursday, December 3 at Garry’s Restaurant. Turkey with all the trimmings and a special dessert are on the menu. An alternative will be provided for anyone who cannot eat turkey. The cost is $26 all inclusive. Seats must be reserved so call Marilee at 705-368-2547 to claim your spot.
The next Book Sale at the Manitoulin Health Centre will be on January 29 and 30. There will be a variety of fiction and non-fiction available.
Auxiliary members are always busy! Once again, Marilee Hore and June McConnell will be making polar fleece blankets for patients who are hospitalized over Christmas. As well, the New Year’s Baby and mom receive gifts from the Auxiliary.
The HELPP Lottery and the Tuck Cart will be closed from December 21 to January 3.
The next regular meeting is on Thursday, January 7 at 7 pm in the Multi Purpose Room. Make a New Year’s resolution to volunteer. There is a need for new active members to carry on the work of the Auxiliary,
The members of the Manitoulin Health Centre Auxiliary wish one and all a happy Christmas, filled with the love, peace and joy it brings, May the New Year (2016) be super!
