MANITOULIN–Gordon’s Park on Manitoulin Island is wrapping up a fantastic summer of stargazing with our final Star Party of the year, the Aurora Borealis Weekend. This event is being held over the Thanksgiving weekend October 10 – 13, 2014 in the RASC Dark Sky Preserve at the park.
The Aurora Borealis Weekend offers astronomy workshops, gorgeous night sky viewing with telescopes, public observing sessions, a laser guided sky tour, a potluck supper and an opportunity to hopefully view the beautiful northern lights. Aurora Borealis are most active in the months of September and October and the park has a fantastic inventory of Northern Light Photographs that have been taken over the years by various astrophotographers which will be showcased in an Aurora Borealis Slide Show.
Guests can register for the day, the whole weekend or to attend the guided public observing sessions in the evenings beginning at 9 pm. Participants will be given a star map as well as copies of the SkyNews magazine and will have a chance to win a door prize of free passes to Science North and their Planetarium.
