ASSIGINACK—Assiginack Public School hosted its annual Terry Fox School Run to support cancer research on Friday, October 11. They raised an astonishing $3,850.
The Try Like Terry Challenge made students eager to reach their goal. If they raised $3,500 the teachers and principal promised to run an obstacle course race while wearing inflatable animal costumes. To get students excited two teachers, Ms. MacNeil and Mrs. McCarville, dressed as a unicorn and chicken and gave high fives and hugs to the students running by.
The Grade 5/6 class organised every detail of the Terry Fox School Run. They made colourful posters, filmed videos for social media, and held assemblies. They had all the students colour and decorate a shoe for a banner and encouraged students to wear special dedication stickers.
“The Grade 5 and 6 class did an awesome job organising and hosting the Terry Fox School Run,” said Ms. Joanne, one of the teachers involved in the event. “Their leadership really brought the school together for this important cause.”
The event kicked off with lively dances that energized everyone participating. The upbeat music had students moving and laughing. Following the warm ups, everyone went outside and ran around pylons in a big rectangle, listening to fun upbeat music.
The 2024 Terry Fox School Run at Assiginack PS was fun, exciting and a great success! Students are looking forward to seeing the teachers and principal running in their costumes next week. Terry gave his biggest try, so the students gave their biggest try. Donations are still being accepted at terryfoxschoolrun.org.
