Nothing beats a pair of handmade socks–if your feet are warm you will be warm all over (so my grandmother told me when I was young). Modern knit designer Cookie A has created hundreds of daring new sock patterns. Her book, ‘Sock Innovation: Knitting Techniques and Patterns for One-of-a-Kind Socks’ is a cornucopia of chic, fashionable, comfortable and original foot gear–socks that are a work of art!

‘Summer at the Lake Quilts’ by Susan Maw and Sally Bell features 11 fresh, new designs for quilts, bags, napkins, hats, blankets, table toppers, pin cushions, backpacks and pillows. These are projects that are ideal for using up scrap materials. Each pattern includes plenty of different depth capacity techniques and devices such as applique, ruffles and frills. So go ahead and create a personal, awesome gift!

‘Love Anthony’ is the newest novel from best selling author, Lisa Genova. This book challenges the reader by probing the depths of the tough questions that life throws our way. It is the tale of two memorable women–one facing the loss of a child and the other the loss of her marriage. This is another excellent story from the author of ‘Still Alice.’

Anita Shreve’s novel, ‘The Weight of Water,’ is impossible to put down. The story’s lead character is a photographer who decides to investigate a century-old double murder that occurred in a small off-shore community in Maine. Her hunt for the truth leads her down some torturous personal trails: the paths of distrust, jealousy, bitterness as well as suspicion. This is a good read from a powerful storyteller!

Teen Picks: ‘Paddle-to-the-Sea’ by Holling Clancy-Holling and ‘The Lost Locket’ by Carol Matas.

DVD Pick: ‘Captain Phillips’ starring Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi–an emotional roller-coaster ride during a ship hijacking on the high seas–based on a true story.

There is also free wireless access during Library hours so bring your device and join (we have two public computers available too). Watch for posters on our various upcoming in-Library events. See you at the Library!
