Scottish author Peter May has written several awesome thrillers and mystery series. The kind you just can’t put down or stop thinking about. His novel, ‘Cast Iron’ (the newest and final book of his ‘Enzo Files’ series), finds forensic expert Enzo Macleod reviewing the small amount of evidence available in the sixth and final ‘cold case’ that he has been tasked with and assigned to solve. In getting to the bottom of this complicated case, Enzo surrounds everyone that matters to him in danger. Just when the reader thinks they have it all figured out – they don’t! This is one of my favourite authors in this genre!

Canadian author, Peter Robinson’s books featuring Superintendent Alan Banks are some of the very best crime novels in print. His characters are quirky, human and comfortable. His stories are set in villages and rural areas of Great Britain. Robinson’s book, ‘Sleeping in the Ground’ continues the suspenseful tone of this captivating police adventures.

‘Survival Savvy Family’ by Julie Sczerbinski is a guide to assist families during the worst of times. It contains advice on family emergency plans, emergency kits, tips on safe food and water storage and what to do in natural disasters, house fires and home invasions. This book has a broad spectrum of counsel and wisdom in being prepared for the possible and the impossible.

Carol Burnett is one of the very best comedians of our time. Our family never missed her show–it was colourful, clean and incredibly funny–a kind of wit that all generations loved and could relate to. ‘This Time Together: Laughter and Reflection’ by Carol is an insight into the woman who made the world laugh with her as she presented a creative and golden-age in comedy. This is a moving read from a woman who has shared her talent and smile with us for over 50 years.

Young Adult Pick: ‘Lady Midnight’ by Cassandra Clare.

DVD Pick: ‘Deep Blue Sea 2’ starring Danielle Savre, Rob Mayes and Michael Beac –a film that gives the classic movie ‘Jaws’ a run for its terror!
