MANITOWANING—The Assiginack township second annual youth baseball tournament was held earlier this month. Jackie White events coordinator for Assiginack told The Expositor, “The second annual tournament was a success due to the incredible sportsmanship show by all. It continues to overwhelm me when I see so much goodness out of our youth.”
“From the players to the coaches, to the spectators, it was all positive for days of ball. My favourite part was when I watched the first base coach of the 12 and under division, tell the opposing team where to stand so they would have the best chance to stop the ball from his team’s batter. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the volunteers from Assiginack Public School who worked all weekend providing food/drinks at the tournament. A shout out to Janet McCarville and Dawn Roque who took on the job of making this happen with the support of the APS parents.
“But none of this would even be possible without the incredible umpires who stood out there in the hot sun, and wind and ensured these kids had great games. Ryan Stewart, Nathan Howard, Larry Harasym, Reuben Allen and Ron Cooper. They are truly the guys that made the tournament.”
