Assiginack Council Notes

Assiginack Public Library

Assiginack council accepted the minutes from the November 23, 2015 Assiginack Public Library board meeting.

Councillor Brenda Reid explained to council that the board has asked municipal staff to prepare a request for proposal for work to be done at the library including painting, removing doors and blocking off a staircase (she noted that it would be too expensive to remove).

“This work won’t impact the budget as we will be using money from our (the library) reserves,” added Councillor Reid.

Reports

Council accepted the minutes from the Manitoulin Planning Board meeting from December 8, 2015.

Assiginack council also accepted the minutes from the Assiginack Museum Advisory Committee meeting from November 4, 2015. Councillor Hugh Moggy said that the committee has began planning an open house for the museum’s 60th anniversary in the spring.

Councillor Les Fields moved a motion to accept the Leachate Management Contingency Measures Report, seconded by Councillor Moggy. The motion was carried.

Financial reports

Council authorized the general account for a payment of $225,526.31, payroll for $57,936.62 and approved and authorized cheques.

Council also accepted the monthly budget vs actual comparison report as of November 30, 2015.

Salmon derby

Council discussed a request from The Manitoulin Expositor regarding a weigh in station for the Manitoulin Expositor Salmon Derby in Manitowaning.

“It would be great to have one here,” said Councillor Fields. “This sounds like it is going to be a great event.”

“I want it here,” added Councillor Moggy.

Council discussed approaching Manitoulin Streams to partner with the municipality to host the weigh station in town and seeking volunteers to help run the station.

“We will figure out the details to make this work,” said Mayor Paul Moffatt.

OGRA Conference

Council carried a motion authorizing Mayor Moffatt, Councillor Moggy, Councillor Fields, Councillor Reid and Assiginack Town CAO Alton Hobbs to attend the Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA) Conference February 21-24 in Toronto.
