AOK Powwow to start season

AUNDECK OMNI KANING—As has been tradition for 32 years the first weekend of June is being set aside in Aundeck Omni Kaning (AOK) for the first pow wow among Manitoulin area First Nation communities.

This years thirty-second annual pow wow, with the theme ‘Honouring Our Youth,’ will be held June 1-2. Sunrise ceremonies will start at 5:30 am on Wednesday, May 29. 

Pow wow grand entry will take place Saturday at 12 noon and 7 pm, and at 12 noon on Sunday, while there will be a feast held on Saturday beginning at 5 pm. Feast bundles are encouraged.

Host drum will be Bear Creek, with Snake Island being the co-host. Head veteran is Caleb Corbiere, with head female and male youth dancers Karmen Atkinson and Kaylan Corbiere. 

Cedar Smoke is the head female dancer, with the head male dancer being Tyrone Shawana.
