Annual Tour de Meldrum Bay to benefit Mindemoya Hospital

MINDEMOYA—Twenty-three years ago Dale Scott of Mindemoya rode his bicycle from Mindemoya to Meldrum Bay, with a return trip the next day. His lone efforts were all done to raise money to benefit the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary.

On September 23-24, Mr. Scott will be joined by several riders again this year for the 23rd annual Tour de Meldrum ride.

“The first year I went by myself,” stated Mr. Scott. “I can’t even remember much about it, it was so long ago,” he quipped.

“The money raised by riders goes toward benefitting the Mindemoya Hospital, for needed equipment,” said Mr. Scott. “Last year, the funds we raised went towards the hospital ‘Let’s Emerg’ campaign for the newly expanded hospital emergency department.”

Mr. Scott said with an average amount of about $6,000 being raised each year through the ride, “I’m thinking that including this year we will have raised something like just south of $150,000 over the years.”

“There won’t be as many riders as there usually is, this year,” said Mr. Scott. “We are looking at maybe having a total of 14-16 riders. A lot of the regular riders will not be able to attend this year due to personal commitments.”

The group will begin its ride from the Lake Wolsey Cabins in Evansville on Saturday morning, travelling to Meldrum Bay for lunch, “where the ladies from the church auxiliary in Silver Water will be putting on a lunch for us,” said Mr. Scott. “Then we will ride back to the Wolsey Cabins Saturday. We will be having a buffet meal at G.G.’s Restaurant in Evansville that evening.”

“Riders will make their own breakfast Sunday morning before they travel to the Providence Bay beach where they will enjoy refreshments and then return to Lake Wolsey Cabins,” added Mr. Scott.
