Annual Maple Ridge Farm golf tournament benefits Mindemoya hospital

GORDON—It was a great day for golf and a lot of fun, but it was also a day that will benefit the Mindemoya Hospital. On August 19 at Manitoulin Golf, Maple Ridge Farm hosted its fourth annual memorial tournament.

“I would like to thank all of you for coming out today to enjoy a day of golf, and to remember some wonderful people who played golf but are no longer with us. And to raise funds for the hospital,” said Brian Bainborough of Maple Ridge Farm.

“We are here to announce some winners, but the biggest winner is the Mindemoya Hospital,” said Mr. Bainborough.

Mr. Bainborough explained, “this is a fun tournament, but there were three teams that ended up at two under par (for nine holes). But the biggest thing is that proceeds raised from the tournament are going to a good cause.”

Through retrogression the team of Morgan Hudson, Victoria Pitawanakwat, Jeff Pitawanakwat and Teina Pitawanakwat took first place.

Several other prizes were handed out: men’s closest to the pin on the fourth hole was won by Jaxson Perry; men’s longest drive won by Tim Spadzinski; ladies closest to the hole was won by Amy Wright; longest putt was won by Jeff Pitawanakwat; and ladies’ longest drive won by Tracey º.

“The original idea for this tournament came about when Merle Idle and I were sitting around in the sugar house years ago and he said, ‘we need to do something for the hospital’,” said Mr. Bainborough.

The tournament has raised almost $20,000 in its four years, Mr. Bainborough told the participants.
