Annual ATV Ride defeats bad weather

MELDRUM BAY—Rain couldn’t keep the fifth annual Meldrum Bay All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) ride from being a huge success.

“All-in-all things went very well considering the weather; it was a pretty cold and wet ride,” stated Lee McDonald, one of the main organizers of the annual event, which was held this past Saturday in Meldrum Bay.

Mr. McDonald pointed out, “we had 119 participants and a total of 72 bikes take part.”

Riders had the opportunity to take one of two different rides, one being 25 miles and the longer ride being 40 miles in length.

After participants took part in the ride everyone returned to the Meldrum Bay Community Hall to enjoy a hearty lunch and door prizes, which were graciously donated by many different sponsors, were given out to the participants.

The rain couldn’t deter the 119 ATV riders who took part in the annual Meldrum Bay ATV Ride. The event was held last Saturday.

Mr. McDonald stated that organizers are already looking forward to next year’s ride. He noted as well that this year’s ride was similar to last year’s event in that “participants came from a variety of communities on the Island and off-Island to join in the ride. I know of a couple of groups who stayed at the local campground. If we can get a few more riders coming each year, and staying in the community, it benefits everyone.”
