KAPUSKASING—Last week André Robichaud was named the Conservative candidate in Algoma-Manitoulin‐Kapuskasing for the October federal election.
Mr. Robichaud, an economic development professional, announced this past May his intentions to seek the Conservative nomination saying his focus would be on keeping taxes low for hard-working middleclass families in the riding, making retirement more affordable and working with First Nations to move responsible resource development forward.
“I’m excited to be officially confirmed as the Conservative candidate and I’m looking forward to representing Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s strong, serious team here in Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing,” Mr. Robichaud said. “With the prime minister focused squarely on the needs of Northern Ontario families, like announcing the new Family Tax Cut, and increasing the Universal Childcare Benefit, it’s clear that the Conservative Party understands the needs of families in Algoma‐Manitoulin‐Kapuskasing, and across Northern Ontario.”
Mr. Robichaud spoke of his community work and what he believes is at stake in this upcoming election for his home of the past decade.
“I’ve worked closely with many in our community over the past 10 years and I know there’s a lot at stake in this election,” Mr. Robichaud said. “On one hand, we have Justin Trudeau whose focus so far is only to raise taxes and increase our debt, proving he’s just not ready for the job of prime minister. On the other, we have Stephen Harper whose proven leadership has kept our tax burden at the lowest point it’s been in 50 years, and whose been focused on making retirement more affordable and protecting Canadians.”
Mr. Robichaud concluded by stating his campaign will focus on responsible resource development, creating quality jobs, tax relief for hard working families, keeping retirement affordable and protecting the rights of gun owners.
The federal general election will be October 19, 2015.
