An Assiginack municipal candidate cites a litany of references for his concern

Vows to use letters page as election platform each month and each month thereafter for four years

To the Expositor:

Everywhere around us, we can see/hear, read on different media, announcements and proclamations for the May 1 declarations of nomination openings for October municipal elections. Everywhere but Assiginack, that is. I wish to take this opportunity to remind council they have not been elected for life. Having stated same, I would also appreciate this opportunity as well to file a ‘report card,’ something contributed by the Electorate of Assiginack and through this media. I saw no reason to research back any further than November 2017. A one-year anniversary, so to speak.

I am finding great difficulty in a reasonable rationale to re-elect any of the present Assiginack council Members. They should properly deal with their fears of not being elected one more time, and properly announce May 1, and October’s protocol.

I shall be running for a seat on the Assiginack council, and my election shall present an interesting conundrum as council meetings, etc. shall be held in the underutilized Taj Mahal gazebo. I have been illegally banned from Township chambers, as well as other Assiginack locations. I vow to speak here, every month from present to October, and then so much more thereafter, for at least four years.

Michael R. White
Manitowaning

EDITOR’S NOTE: The letter writer’s avowed intention to use The Expositor letters section raises an interesting concern for the paper. We will be consulting our legal counsel as to whether publishing this writer’s letters going forward will constitute “advertising” under Elections Canada regulations.
