All candidates’ event next Wednesday, February 12, in Mindemoya

MINDEMOYA—Each provincial election, The Expositor strives to support democracy in Algoma-Manitoulin by hosting an all candidates’ evening where voters can come to learn about the programs of those parties vying for their mark on the ballot. That debate is usually held in the cafeteria of Manitoulin Secondary School, but the school’s annual production is taking place in that venue and the paper sought out a new venue.

Originally, that venue was to be the Mindemoya Community Hall, but an errant water pipe burst that plan—literally—and the hall is closed for repairs. Undaunted, The Expositor sought out yet another option and Freshwater Community Church at 51 Yonge Street in Mindemoya will be the new site.

The speeches, debate and questions will begin at 6:30 pm with coffee and doughnuts on hand to take the winter chill off.

Squaring up in the lists will be incumbent independent Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha and challengers, Liberal candidate Reg Nigonobe, NDP candidate David Timeriski and Green candidate Maria Legault. The Expositor has yet to hear from Progressive Conservative candidate Bill Rosenberg.
