AARON MICHAEL JOHN FARQUHAR
December 12, 1976 – April 17, 2025
It is with shattered hearts that the Farquhar family shares the news of the sudden passing of Aaron Farquhar. Aaron’s earthly journey came to a tragic end in a snowmobile accident on the night of April 16, 2025 in Lake Huron, the same lake where his passions lay. Aaron was a true original who figured out early on that life was meant to be lived to the fullest. He had a larger-than-life quality about him—a big, fearless guy with a huge heart and a mischievous sense of humor who had a gift for living fully immersed in the presenut moment. Aaron valued family above all. He cherished time spent with his wife Kristin and their three children, Raine, Ayden and Zara. Aaron and Kristin’s love story has an eternal quality about it: a secret crush in elementary school, then reconnecting in their early twenties, getting married and having three kids in a whirlwind of young love, then eventually parting ways, and finally, years later, rejoining their charted destiny as soulmates. Kristin and Aaron reconciling and healing their little family of five, working with love to forge what was broken into something whole and stronger—this was one of the great accomplishments of Aaron’s life, and will be his greatest legacy. Aaron highly valued relationships, and was a big presence in the lives of his siblings and their children. Many an ‘Uncle Aaron story’ has graced the dinner tables of both Evan and Jennifer’s homes. He loved getting together with extended family for a good ‘beach day’ out at his parents’ home in Kagawong or out on one of the many North Channel beaches with the Clarks and friends. He loved his friends dearly, and was a vibrant source of fun whenever family and friends got together. His keen sense of humour was his trademark; there was no situation Aaron could not mine for humour. He was a spiritual person, in his own way—largely through his connection to nature. An avid outdoorsman like many of his Clark uncles and cousins, he lived for moments out on the lake fishing or in the bush hunting, or simply having a good time out on the water with friends and family. A summer day spent with Aaron on the lake was sure to be an adventure, and also likely to produce a choice story to be retold later. The world will not be running short of Aaron Farquhar stories any time soon. A deep thinker, Aaron was a voracious reader, drawn to books about history and philosophy. He sought answers to the big metaphysical questions, about the nature of reality and our soul’s purpose. He had a running list of ‘must-reads’ that he liked to share with family members in his quest to grapple with the bigger picture, which will be keeping loved ones busy for quite some time to come. In his work life, Aaron worked his way up the ranks of the family business, Thomas Farquhar & Sons Co. Ltd. He began as a humble ice-bagger at Kool-it-Ice when he was in elementary school, then eventually went on to ice delivery, then up a rung to a milk delivery route for the dairy, then helping his dad Mike and cousin Don Farquhar run Farquhar’s Dairy, then running the dairy himself, to eventually building and running the Little Current Rona. Interacting daily in the store with friends and neighbours from the community where he was born and raised suited Aaron. He was a people person; very kind, with a big, generous heart. Much like his dad, Aaron often went out of his way to help people. Aaron left us far too soon, and right when things were getting really, really good. He will be terribly missed by people far and wide, but at the top of the list of those grieving his loss are his parents Marilyn Farquhar (nee Clark) and Mike Farquhar, his wife Kristin Farquhar (nee Smith), his children Raine, Ayden and Zara Farquhar, his sister Jennifer Papastergiou (nee Farquhar) and brother-in-law Thanos Papastergiou, his brother Evan Farquhar and sister-in-law Jeni Farquhar (nee Wright), as well as his nieces and nephews Ava, Jayden, Tessa, Zack, Hannah, Oakley and Rory. He will also be greatly missed by the many friends and co-workers who had the pleasure of calling Aaron a friend. Aaron’s love of life and his courage to live without limits will be remembered always. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many first responders and officers who searched for Aaron and the medical team who tried their best to save him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests making a donation to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH). A visitation and funeral were held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Island Funeral Home in Little Current. Immediately following the funeral, friends and family gathered at the Royal Canadian Legion to socialize and remember Aaron. In keeping with Aaron’s zest for life, visitors wore something that brought them joy—no drab funeral attire.
