A 95-year-old found peace of mind with their generous offer of a ride home
To the Expositor:
I would like to commend MP Carol Hughes and her husband Keith for an extraordinary act of kindness and generosity.
During the snowstorm of January 10, I found myself stranded at Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport on my way home from a visit to Ottawa. All flights into Sudbury had been cancelled. As a 95-year-old travelling on my own, I wasn’t sure how I was going to find overnight accommodation and a rescheduled flight.
Enter Carol and her husband who were also stranded by the flight cancellations. They generously offered me, and three other stranded passengers, a ride home in a rental van. Keith drove us through one of the worst snowstorms of the year, delivering us all to Sudbury safe and sound.
Carol and Keith did much more than provide safe transportation. They provided me (and my family) with peace of mind. It would have been a terribly stressful experience to find my own way around Toronto. Instead, I felt secure with this capable couple and I was able to sleep in my own bed that night.
The voters of Algoma, Manitoulin and Kapuskasing are very fortunate to have Carol Hughes as their Member of Parliament. She is a genuine caring individual.
Sincerely,
Irene McCauley
