MINDEMOYA—A public community satisfaction survey points to Manitoulin residents being very satisfied with policing services on the Island.
Kevin Webb, Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant for the Manitoulin OPP, told members of the Community Policing Advisory Committee at a recent meeting, “The OPP just released its 2012 community satisfaction survey results. They do random calls people on the Island, talking to people who are 16 years of age and older and asking them questions as to how satisfied they are with policing services on the Island.”
For Manitoulin a total of 381 satisfaction surveys were completed, 113 in Mindemoya, 105 in Gore Bay, 94 in Little Current and 64 in Manitowaning. “Some of the highlights of the overall response from local residents included how safe they feel in their community and on the Island,” said Staff Sergeant Webb. On the question of how safe residents feel in their community, 63.5 percent responded they feel very safe, 33.6 percent felt safe, 2.4 percent feel unsafe and 0.5 percent feel very unsafe.
The survey shows 83.2 percent of respondents say OPP members are very involved or somewhat involved in their community; 93.1 percent of respondents were very satisfied or satisfied with the OPP’s visibility in their community; and 93.1 percent were very satisfied or satisfied with the OPP’s visibility on the highways.
In regards to the OPP’s effectiveness, 89.4 percent of respondents were very satisfied or satisfied with the OPP’s enforcement of aggressive driving laws, while 90.7 percent were very satisfied or satisfied with the OPP’s enforcement of drunk driving.
Overall, 92.4 percent of respondents were very satisfied or satisfied with the quality of police service provided by the OPP on Manitoulin Island.
