DAVID GREGORY MACKENZIE

Recently retired Purolator Delivery Man for Manitoulin. In loving memory of David Gregory MacKenzie who died suddenly early on Tuesday morning, October 4, 2011 at the Manitoulin Health Centre at the age of 63. Dave graduated from Humber College in Toronto with a degree in Broadcasting, and got his first broadcasting job with CHNO Radio in Sudbury where he worked for 19 years. He was inducted into sport hall fame in Sudbury for his amazing broadcasting ability. He was a naturalist; he wouldn’t even kill a spider, he caught problem bats, releasing them again. Dave loved the outdoors, from cutting the grass to walking in the woods, very much aware and in tune with his surroundings, he knew all the bugs, wildlife, plants and trees around him, all were special and personal to him. He was methodical in his observation of nature, and was always eager for new sightings (ie. the elusive cougar on the island). He was a very talented golfer, enjoying all sports, he played and watched hockey, he was a natural broadcaster, continuing to verbally participate. Not everyone knew or saw the sensitive side of Dave, but all could see that he was trustworthy, and took pride in what he did. From the time he was a child, Dave just wanted to be outside; in the rain, sunshine or snow. Survived by his wife Louise, children Don of Pickering and Bonnie (husband Dan Dooley) of Calgary, grandchildren Graham, Ashley, Scott and Jordan, brothers, Robert (wife Kathy) of Oakville, Bruce (wife Laurie) of Grimsby, sisters Jane (husband Mike Boltan) of Guelph, Mary-Anne (husband Tom Warren) of North Carolina, Ruth (husband Danny Ryan) of Toronto. Brother-in-law of Terry Whitehorn of Toronto and Joanie and husband Joe Salvalaggio of Sudbury. Predeceased by parents Margaret (nee Webber) and Dr. Alexander Mackenzie. Will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Visitation was from 7 pm – 9 pm on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Funeral Service was at 2 pm on Thursday, October 6, 2011, all at Island Funeral Home. Cremation. Donations to MHC Auxiliary, Heart and Stroke or for a memorial bench that will be placed in Dave’s memory. Arrangements entrusted with Island Funeral Home, Little Current.
