PROVIDENCE BAY – Thanks to the support of the municipality of Central Manitoulin and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), the mouth of the Mindemoya River has been opened to allow for salmon to get upstream to spawn.
On the Manitoulin Streams Improvement Association (MSIA) website on September 18, it was reported, “thank you to the municipality of Central Manitoulin and operator Jon Graham for helping us open up the mouth of the Mindemoya River so the salmon can make their way up stream easier to spawn.”
“Real heavy winds were closing up the mouth of the river,” MSIA noted. “Also thanks to the Sudbury District MNRF for the work permit! Working together to reach a common goal.”
