There’s still time to register for this year’s Harvest Glory Days

MANITOULIN – Are you personally, or is your community, your business, your church, your community hall decorating yet in the autumn theme? Would you like to be a part of the 2020 Harvest Glory Days fall decorating, inter-community friendly competition on Manitoulin Island?

Judging will take place on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4 so that results can be announced in the next issue of The Manitoulin Expositor, the one just before Thanksgiving Weekend.

It’s pretty simple: the more individual decorating done in any community, the better chance that community has of claiming bragging rights for community spirit.

This is the eighth consecutive Harvest Glory Days event, sponsored by The Manitoulin Expositor.

The judges have three categories of Manitoulin towns: large towns, medium-sized towns and small towns.

Manitowaning has been the perennial winner in the large-town category, although last year it shared this honour with Gore Bay, that had considerably stepped up its decorating efforts.

In the mid-sized community category, Sheguiandah has won the past two years and Providence Bay the two years prior to that. Who will win this year?

In the small-town category, Silver Water has posted six consecutive wins. (Spring Bay won the first year with an enormous effort assisted by the local 4-H Club.)

Each winning community receives a large metal sign that proclaims them as a Harvest Glory Days winner, a testament to the local citizens’ public spirit.

The newest sign, Gore Bay’s, was erected this year in a very visible location.

There is room on each sign to boast subsequent winning years which are designated by a large leaf inscribed with the winning year.

The judges do their best to visit as much of every town as possible over the judging weekend but it is recommended that you visit manitoulin.com where you will find at the top of the home page an invitation to click for information on Harvest Glory Days and you can register your address and community there too. Deadline is October 2 for registrations.

You can also register by email to expositor@manitoulin.com.
