KAGAWONG – In just a few weeks, all the docks will be in at the Kagawong waterfront as part of the current marina project.
In an update provided by Todd Gordon, economic development officer for the Township of Billings on Monday, “about one-half of the docks are here and in the basin. The dock ram abutments (concrete) are partially completed.” As well, the replica lighthouse has been returned to its home on the end of the breakwall.
“Today they are removing the hard surfacing on Old Mill Road, near the bridge, so as to do the excavation for the underground power to the small craft basin (SCB) panel,” explained Mr. Gordon. He pointed out the electrical work is partially done. “Some sites in the new dock array will have electrical and water service pedestals. And the shoreline protection in front of the Old Mill is complete but there is some back-filling to do to finish the job.”
As for work yet to be completed, this includes the remaining abutment work that needs to be finished; the rest of the docks need to arrive and be installed, plus ramps, continued Mr. Gordon. “The entire SCB entrance, parking and ramp area needs to be “top-dressed” and finished to grade. The power line needs to be installed and the remaining electrical/water service work needs to be completed. And the Old Mil Road needs to be resurfaced (hard surfacing, not asphalt—returned to original condition).
“So the work is on schedule, probably actually a little bit ahead,” said Mr. Gordon. “The work will be complete by the end of September. The SCB should be ready for action at the beginning of the 2021 boating season.”
