Election will take place on August 29
AUNDECK OMNI KANING – Aundeck Omni Kaning (AOK) First Nation will be going to the polls to decide who will represent them for the next three years as their chief and council.
Nomination night was held on the evening of Wednesday, August 12 at the AOK Community Centre for band members to submit their choice for the leadership positions. At the end of the night, three names were submitted for consideration for the position of chief while a record 32 names were put forth for the seven seats available on council.
The three candidates nominated for chief are Patsy Corbiere (incumbent), Marvin Assinewai and Deborah King. The band members nominated for council are (alphabetically) Diane Abotossaway, Kelly Abotossaway (incumbent), Maxwell Abotossaway (incumbent), Michael Abotossaway, Shaun Assinewai, Cynthia Behm, Bryan Daniel Corbiere, Candice Corbiere, Frank Corbiere, Zachary Corbiere, Janet Esquimaux, Mathew Esquimaux, Deborah Francis (incumbent), Justin Francis, Rachel Goodfellow, Deborah King, Courtney Kurek, Crystal Madahbee, Ingrid Madahbee (incumbent), Scott Madahbee (incumbent), James McComber, Dakota McGraw, Devin McGraw, Karen McGraw-Shokan (incumbent), Maximilliano McGraw, Sage Nahwegahbow-Isaac, Lana Neville, Norman Obotossaway, Susan Ramsdin, Serenity Sandford, Joey Stoneypoint and Beverly Wilson.
All potential candidates will have until noon today, Wednesday August 19, to decide whether they want to remain on the ballot or have their names withdrawn from consideration for the positions.
AOK band members can vote at the advance poll on Wednesday, August 26 or cast their ballot during the main poll on Saturday, August 29 at the AOK Community Centre.
