October 21, 1936 – February 21, 2013
In loving memory of Patricia M. Drake, who passed away peacefully in her 77th year at Sudbury Regional Hospital on February 21, 2013. Patricia was born in London and grew up in Bristol England where she attended an all-girls school, worked in various factories and shops, studied nursing at Frenchay Hospital and eventually migrated to Canada where she earned degrees in early childhood education at McMaster University. She lived on Manitoulin Island since 1970 where she worked many jobs including preschool teacher, supply teacher, childcare director, home daycare visitor all while helping run the family-owned marina and fishing camp. She was a prolific artist whose paintings are scattered across the globe, an avid gardener and member of the horticultural society, loved to laugh and spend time with friends including the red hat sisterhood. Patricia loved to knit, sew, bake, and dote on her grandchildren. Her love for books led to a part-time job as a librarian after she retired from the child care agency. She also served on several boards and other volunteer positions throughout her busy and productive life. Patricia is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Richard Drake, son Mark Drake and his partner Sherri Culmore of Oshawa, daughter Natalie Long and husband Adam of Wilbraham MA, and her three cherished granddaughters Marina, Alexandra and Carley. She also leaves a brother Frank Latchford and sister Daphne Baber of Bristol England and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Daughter of the late Arthur and Rosina Latchford, Patricia was predeceased by sisters Shirley and Wendy and many dear friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 1 pm in “Pat’s Garden” on Rockville Road followed by an old English tea. All friends and family are welcome.
