Manitoulin OPP investigate theft and charge two

(MINDEMOYA, ON) – On July 13, 2020 at approximately 7:36 p.m., officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft in progress from a business on Yonge Street in Mindemoya.

Investigation revealed that one of the individuals assaulted a citizen who was attempting to stop the theft. As a result of the investigation:

A 39-years-old male, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000 – Shoplifting, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC).

A 52-years-old male, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000 – Shoplifting, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC;
  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC.

The accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay, on September 16, 2020.
