LITTLE CURRENT – A late May 11 fire has left a Little Current family unhurt but scrambling to secure a house to live.
“The cause of the fire is still indeterminant,” said Northeast Town fire chief Duane Deschamps, “but nothing seems untoward. The fire appears to have started by the front door sometime between 11 pm and midnight.”
Northeast Town firefighters battled the blaze until 6 am but had to return again around 9 am when a small blaze again erupted at the site, not an unusual occurrence, especially with fires in older buildings. But firefighters’ turnout gear had not had a chance to completely dry out before being called on to once again be donned.
Mr. Deschamps said that the insurance company is onsite and has already started work dealing with the extensive damage to the structure.
Family member Aline Stephens was understandably not up to discussing the experience when contacted by The Expositor, but did share that the family was searching for a house to rent as soon as possible.
“It’s the former Tracy home and was the home of my grandparents Jean and Morley Tracy for several years and it’s where my dad (the late Doug Tracy) and his siblings were raised,” noted Kim Hopper on the history of the home.
