Little Current woman charged with theft over $100,000 from Wikwemikong band

WIKWEMIKONG–As a result of a request from the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, the North East Region Criminal Investigation Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has just completed a theft investigation in which over $100,000 in funds belonging to the Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve Band was allegedly stolen over the period of a year.

The OPP was contacted by the Wikwemikong Tribal Police in regards to the alleged theft, and asked to take over the investigation. After an extensive investigation a former employee of the band, who was a financial officer during this time, has been charged contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Charged with theft over $5000 is Dale Trudeau, age 43 of Little Current. Ms. Trudeau was arrested and released on a promise to appear. She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Monday, May 27 at 10 am.
