MINDEMOYA—The Manitoulin Island detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) welcomed a new permanent staff sergeant and operations manager, Helena Wall, to the fold earlier this month.
Al Boyd, chair of the Manitoulin Community Police Advisory Committee (CPAC) said at a meeting last week, “I would certainly like to welcome Staff Sergeant Helena Wall.”
Staff Sergeant Wall takes over the position of staff sergeant and operational manager of the Manitoulin Island OPP, a position that had been previously filled by Kevin Webb. This position had become a reality after the Manitoulin detachment amalgamated with the Espanola OPP to create an inspector overseen detachment. Megan Cavanagh is the inspector and detachment commander for the Manitoulin OPP.
“I started last Monday, December 2, and will be here on a permanent duration.”
Staff Sergeant Wall told the meeting, “I was originally born in Ireland, and moved to Canada when I was 18. We have been living in Sudbury since 1991.”
“I am really excited to be on staff for the local detachment,” stated Staff Sergeant Wall. She noted previously she had worked with the Detective Sergeant Crime Unit for three years, taking in the area from Blind River to West Parry Sound.
“I love it here,” she told the meeting, noting, “I am staying on the Island and I really like living and working on Manitoulin.”
