SUDBURY – The board of health for the Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) has ratified a new contract agreement with the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA).
Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, medical officer of health and CEO of PHSD told the Recorder this past Monday, “the board at its meeting (last week) voted in favour of ratifying a settlement with the nurses. The board had received a recommendation from the (PHSD) bargaining committee to ratify with ONA—which had already ratified the agreement on October 7.”
The contract includes public health nurses, registered nurses and nurse practitioners with the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA), who work within the PHSD, and provide a wide range of services for approximately 165,000 residents in the Sudbury-Manitoulin district.
ONA is the union representing 65,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as more than 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
The new contract agreement is for two years and includes modest salary increases in each year (1.5 percent and 1.3 percent). Other non-monetary items were also agreed to.
