Tehkummah Talk & Times

Had a nice visit with Fred Henderson Wednesday night at the sit out table. He and his dad, Jim, shared the evening out. He was on a week visit.

Sandfield had seven and a half tables: Rose went home with the $10 for 3 9s; high lady; Sandie, 79; high man, Fred, 83; lone hands, shared Susan and (?), 4; Sheila won 50/50 door; Fourteen bonus prizes tonight, Beth, Eva, Sandie, Annette, me, Judi, Irene, Jim L., Linda, Ted, Marilyn, Jim H., Susan A. and Bill M. I went to the game with Betty Jean. Always goodies for snacking.

Hardly had time to rest from the cribbage game in the afternoon. Always a delicious break midway. More than ever today. Thank you all. My K.P. people too.

Two high hands of 24, BJ and Dorothy A.; high, Betty Jean and Bill, 950; second, Gib and Florence, 941; third, Sandra and Doris, 923; low, Janet and Glenn, 829 and I almost did them out of their prizes. There were so many below the 900s today. So, for these three teams they won enough to buy bubble gum: Ruth and Bill McG, Betty and Georgie, Margaret M. and Lorrie, who we were glad to see back from a Lake of the Woods job. It’s strange how it goes, a couple of weeks back there were 11 teams in the 900s. This week there were 10 teams below 900. We were doing fine until we came up (last game) against Shirley and Glenna, a D.S.; door prize winners Margaret McCarthy, Bill Case and Bill McGregor.

Bid euchre, Thursday evening: first, Dave Nelder, 265; second, tied, Linda and Donna, 190; third, tied, Betty Jean and Janet, 116; low, Dave James, 87; 50/50, Janet Knectal; extra prizes, X under chair, Linda B. and Pat H.

I’ve been singing the ‘Anniversary Waltz;’ actually, the record is stuck!

Happy anniversary, Jackie and Jim Bryant.

Have you been enjoying those lovely cloud formations and all the lovely surprises they have  had tucked (kind of) inside? This week reports of four funnel clouds. Sherry did think her roof was going to leave the house behind one night, and the thunder rolled and rolled and rain, like lots, the kind you can’t see through, and lightning. I have a cat on me as I write, but mama cat Cleo climbed on me in the storm a couple of nights ago, that’s a first for her. I guess she figured I am all powerful and could halt the storm. Anyway, as I write, the sun is shining. I had my other half of chicken wraps (so good) from Pierside; I went there for my late lunch, can’t believe it’s so close to end of the season. Is it just me who can’t hold on to time? Though I am sleeping more of it away, it seems. I stopped to pick perennial sweet pea seeds to throw on the roadsides, maybe eventually? I looked out over the water. For many years there almost every day when I delivered mail to the lab and residents. It seems kind of sad.

I’d love to walk up into the secret garden but can’t take a chance on my own! Lakeshore Road is sure building up, a lovely new home to admire. I drove slowly to absorb it all, and the water we were so worried about a few years back is so high now. I stopped at Pauline and Wayne’s for a minute, had a nice visit. They had just returned from a drive to Gore Bay.

Tavis and Alicia, how are you doing?

No birds in the yard this week! Last week the cedars were full of robins. Wild geese up so high they looked like little v’s, could barely hear them. Tonight, burning in the barrel and a trail of beautiful white feathers, some almost a pinky buff colour, can’t imagine what they’ve come from. It is pigeon time again. Do they still let them go? I didn’t see bird remnants, but I suspect a cat was trying to pin a bird down.

I had just come from South Baymouth, sat with Barb and Hugh at Carol’s and Earl’s and had a good visit. The first they have been back since last I met up with them. Good news, she does not have to have surgery on her back.

Hello, Laverna! We did mention your name. Thinking of you, also Georgina and I guess I just missed Sherry and Dave at the restaurant.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Sympathy this day to the family of Wayne Pennie.

Happy birthday, Lois Thomas.

After church I did what my husband used to call “Sunday driving”. Sight-seeing, admiring fall colours, spreading flower seeds as I travelled, slowly on the quiet roads, finished with the camp road. The trees in McLeans Park are so huge and tall, a great variety, too! They look beautiful with all the colour so high up. It has gotten so grown up. Oh yeah! I had to dump the last of the seeds all in one spot! I had been putting my hand in the bag and throwing a few here and there. Thank goodness I was driving slow, for this grey square bodied spider with a square head was looking like it wanted to attack? Maybe it just wanted to make a friend? It must have been on the lamb’s ear seeds.

Mollie calls and wakes me up Monday morning. It was time, cold out in winter-peg, she says.

Reminder: come celebrate the anniversary service this Sunday at 11:30 am, at St. Andrew’s-By-The-Sea United Church in South Baymouth. It will be a communion service. This church was built in 1928, but services began in the 1870s.  All welcome!
