M’CHIGEENG – UCCM Police Services Chair Peter Nahwegahbo announced last Wednesday that an interim police chief has been named to lead the UCCM Anishnaabe Police until a permanent selection is finalized.
As has been reported previously, Police Chief Rodney Nahwegahbow announced that he will be retiring from the force in November of this year.
“There is an extensive amount of work required to fill the position and we want to ensure that we are hiring the best person qualified to fulfill those duties,” says UCCM Police Board Chair Peter Nahwegahbo. “In the interim, we have selected a well qualified candidate who is able to fulfill the duties of chief of police.”
The UCCM Police Service Commission has selected Yves Forget, who recently retired from 30 years in the Ontario Provincial Police. Interim Police Chief Yves Forget has a cottage on Manitoulin Island and many years in senior police management as detachment commander and has held the rank of police inspector.
Peter Nahwegahbo is confident that the permanent selection for the position of chief of police will be filled within the coming months and in the meantime, he looks forward to working with the interim Police Chief Yves Forget commencing Monday September 23 and welcomes his expertise to the organization.
